Inspirations – Why I take photographs I am inspired by shape, form, colour and texture, particularly those found in nature. For example, I enjoy taking photographs of a landscape or the components that make such a scene, a flower hidden in the grass, a butterfly resting, the texture of a rock, for example. I hope to draw the attention of the viewer to elements of the environment that they might either miss or take for granted. Through Photography I aim to capture the essence of the subject matter so that the viewer is free to interpret what they see in their own way, and perhaps see familiar things as water in a new and exciting manner. The work of the following
photographers, for example, has offered a fountain of inspiration: Ansel
Adams, Edward Weston, Harold Edgerton and Fay Godwin. What’s involved? This depends on the type of photograph I am intending to take, some require that I set up an arrangement with lights, tri-pod and a back drop of some sort, others simply that I be in the right place, at the right time with my camera pointing in the right direction. I use either a Canon EOS 400D digital SLR, or Canon IXUS 70; both of which take excellent photographs which can often be enlarged to A2. People are frequently misled that it’s the number of Mega Pixels that makes the difference between a good camera and a bad one. What really matters is the quality of image, if you have a good quality image it most likely can be enlarged and maintain its clarity to reasonable sizes. Where necessary I will use Photoshop to tidy a photograph up but I try to keep this to a minimum to preserve the natural look of the picture unless my sole intent is to make an abstract image by using Photoshop extensively. I have my work printed professionally so that you are guaranteed the best possible quality. Each photograph is limited to an edition of only 5 prints and will come with a certificate of authentication and serial number so that you can be sure that you have a genuine piece of fine art. |
